The first TTMC of the City is now slated for inauguration on August 31, according to sources. Constructed by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme at a cost of Rs 14 crore, the project has received 35 per cent funds from the Ministry of Urban Development (MuD), Government of India, 15 percent from the State government and fifty percent from BMTC.

Syed Zameer Pasha, Managing Director of the State-run undertaking said that the TTMC is scheduled to be inaugurated by inviting both the Centre and State government representatives. “We are in touch with them (Centre). We should be able to open it by the end of this month” he said.

The TTMC has two floors of 13,000 sq ft each. While the ground floor is equipped with five platforms for bus commuters and rest rooms for the public, the first floor is expected to house BMTC pass-issuing counters, waiting hall and other facilities. Tenders have also been called by BMTC to allot space on the second floor for commercial establishments/shops.

The terrace is expected to accommodate about 40 cars and a hundred two-wheelers, for which ramps have been constructed to facilitate the entry of vehicles. Elevators for the public have also been included at the building.

JNNURM buses

Meanwhile, the BMTC has started plying 25 low-floor buses, funded under the JNNURM scheme on different routes, across the City. They were scheduled to be flagged-off at the inaugural of the Jayanagar TTMC.

These sky-blue buses sport a ‘JNNURM’ logo on its sides. Fares of these buses are on par with Suvarna services. A total of 700 such buses are expected to ply on the roads, in addition to two hundred Volvo Vajra and one hundred air-conditioned buses, all funded under JNNURM scheme at a cost of Rs 328 crore.
