Although some festivals  were held recently, the major ones are yet to start and they are promising a whole lot of excitement. Last year, most of the college festivals focussed on the retro theme. Events like dance, fashion shows and ethnic days revolved around this theme. But, this time, there is no such particular theme.

Almost all the festivals, which were held recently, had one particular event in common. Nail art was a common event for competitions. There were also stalls offering nail art as this is quite popular among the girls. Even faculty members visit these stalls during festivals and get their nail art done.

“We recently had a business bazaar in our college. There were many stalls ranging from food courts to fancy stores. There were nearly three to four nail art corners which did brisk business. Nail art is a craze with modern Indian women and have become so popular because of their vast and vibrant colour palette and wonderful design patterns.

The young nail designers, especially the college girls, offer designs to suit the taste of individual clients. And during festivals, girls find getting nail art done very convenient. Most of them want a common theme,” said Parimala Nijagal, Professor, City College, Jayanagar.

Sargam 11, the State-level inter-collegiate festival to be hosted by New Horizon Group of Institutions soon, also has many innovative events like wax art lined up, wherein participants will have to carve out a bar of wax based on a theme given on the spot.

“We have replaced clay modelling with wax art. This is a fairly new addition for a college festival. Though it sounds like a very different kind of art, those who have excelled in clay modelling can try their hands on this particular event. All technicalities are the same, except the ingredient. We have already got a good response and the judges are going to be evaluating the wax models based on the creativity, carving skills, incorporation of theme, the finish and overall impact. And we are giving two hours as preparation time,” says Shoib, one of the student coordinators for Sargam 11.

The recently ended BMS Utsav 11 had introduced some fun games for the crowd. The ‘zorbing’ event was received very well by the students during this festival and later, many other colleges included zorbing in their list.

Along with these events, one can also look forward to sudoku championship, bindi designing, window display, sari draping and popularity contests like Demagogue, which will be happening at Vistas 2011, a business fest of PES School of Business Management.
