On Wednesday, the Taluk Government Hospital looked unusually tidy. Every corner of the hospital was spick and span and doctors were more patient while treating the sick.  The change was made possible to receive Upa Lokayukta R Gururajan at the hospital.

Pre planned

Although, Gururajan’s visit was supposed to be a surprise visit, it did not appear so. The Upa Lokayukta too observed the ‘make-up’ and said “My visit was co-incidental and it was not informed. However, it appears that the hospital has been kept clean on learning about my visit. I hope it will maintained on everyday basis.”

He directed the authorities concerned to expedite the work of upgrading the hospital with 100 beds.

Some of the patients complained that the hospital which is located at just a stone’s throw away from the National Highway 7 does not have a trauma centre. The number of accidents is more on the stretch but lack of a trauma centre and sufficient doctors has hindered relief works.

Lame excuses

When questioned, the doctors stated that the building has not been handed over to them, hence it has not been equipped. Later, Gururajan contacted the Karntaka State Health Department and suggested to provide a trauma centre to the hospital.

District Lokayukta SP Krishnappa, District Health Officer Dr Bhaktavatsalam, Tahsildar Muniveerappa, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Jyotiprakash and Taluk Health Officer Dr Umarani were present.
