Ashita enters semi-final Indian Junior Open Squash Meet

Winning the first game at 11-7, Ashita grew in confidence in the next two closely fought out game and played the crunch points with elan to win both the games on extra points though better rated Akanksha Salunkhe, who showed signs of recovery to make the most of the situation.

But Ashita was cynosure of all eyes in the manner in which she wore down Akanksha in to submission.

The trainees – P Sankaran, Sandeep Ramachandran, Kush Kumar, Vrishab Kotian and Abhishek Pradan in Boys 13-15-17-19 and Ashita Bhengra (Girls U-13) and Anaka Alankamony and Aparajitha Balamurugan (both in girls-19) did the Indian Squash Academy proud with their stupendous performances.

However, top seed and current Asian champion, Anaka Alakamony, the tournament favourite, claimed a walkover from compatriot Aarthy Kasturiraj and will now take on Lee Ka Yi of Hong Kong in the semi-final tomorrow, while Aparajitha, who beat Ankita Sharma 11-9, 11-3, 13-11 plays Ho Ka Po of Hong Kong.

Sankaran disposed off higher seeded Advait Adik while Ayush Menon (USA) ousted Yash Fadte.

In all, there were six upsets in today's programme including Hong Kong's Tang Cheuk Yan (5-8) getting the better of 3/4 seeded Vivek Dinodia of India in Under-19 Boys section
