Jayadeva unit at K R hospital upgraded

General ward has 30 beds; Follow-up OPD and ICCU opened

A 30-bedded general ward, new ICCU and follow up OPD was inaugurated at a function held at the institute premises at K R Hospital here.

The Jayadeva institute is now upgraded to a 105-bed hospital and would be able to cater to increasing public demand for the services of the only government-run cardiovascular hospital in State.

Minister for medical education and district in-charge S A Ramdas dedicated the state-of-the art  facilities.

In his address, Ramdas said the government had put on fast track the process of establishing of a unit of Kidwai (government-run cancer hospital) in Mysore and Gulbarga.
He stressed on the public-private-partnership in improving infrastructure and facilities at the government hospitals.

“In Hubli, a similar arrangement between the private and government sector has fetched good result. We met philanthropists and convinced them for the need to improve facilities at government hospitals. A Rs 25 crore project has increased to Rs 100 crore programme with the help of donors,” the minister stated.

On the occasion, Dr C N Manjunath, director of Jayadeva Institute said his institute has plans to expand as a world-class cardiac hospital in Mysore. “We have sought a 15 acre campus at PKTB sanitorium. We hope to see the government approves it at the earliest,” the director said.

The Jayadeva hospital in city would host a Indo-American Angioplasty workshop on September 29 and 30. About 25 poor patients will be performed angioplasty surgery as part of the workshop. Patients from poor and economically weaker sections can register for the service, he said.

Engineering section

Earlier, talking to reporters Ramdas said Jayadeva Institute ranked number one among the cardiovascular institutes in country.

It has emerged as a model for other hospitals. To give a fillip to the growth in health sector infrastructure, the government has approved for establishment of separate engineering section in hospitals for maintenance of buildings, hitherto managed by PWD.

The government would also begin a drive for the recruitment of medical officers and allied staff, he said.

Dr Geetha Avadhani, superintendent of K R Hospital, Dr Sadananda, head of Mysore unit of Jayadeva hospital, Dr Harsha Basappa and others were present.
