Drought hits various parts of C'magalur

The meeting was held at Zilla Panchayat hall with ZP Chief Prafulla Manjunath in chair.
Zilla Panchayat  Member Kalmaradappa said that in Kadur rains have failed and due to this the seeds sown have dried.

“The farmers cannot sow the seeds again if it does not rain soon. If the situation continues there will be acute shortage of drinking water this year,” he said.
Member Rekha Huliyappa Gowda said that the situation is the same in Lakya hobli too. Drinking water problem has already cropped up in Kalasapura, K B Hal, Machenahalli etc.

“The farmers have not been able to utilize the amount that was released to them under Suvarna Bhumi Programme. There is a need to release second installment of funds under this programme, she said adding that since  the crops have failed there is a need to launch crop insurance.

Member Chikkamma Mallappa said that coconut trees too have dried, which shows the intensity of the drought.

Kadur Deputy Tahshildar said that a report on the situation has been submitted to the DC.ZP Chief said that signs of drought are clearly shown in Kadur taluk, Shivani and Lakya hoblis.

She directed the officials to make all necessary arrangements to see to it that the region does not face drinking water problem and adequate fodder is supplied for the cattle in the region.
