Grameena Dasara opens with a bang in Hunsur

Though there were less participants in the boulder lifting competition, the ones who took part were cheered by the crowds like never before.

Participants had to lift boulders weighing 50, 75 and 125 kgs within stipulated time. Judges decided to honour both competitors as there was a ‘tie’ for third place between Hemmige Grama Panchayat President Ramegowda and Hunsur resident Srinivas. Velu Swami of Coimbatore stood first and Dhanpal of Kalkunike layout won second places respectively in this contest.

About 29 participants competed with each other in sprint race that demanded that the participants carry 50 kg fertiliser bag on their backs.

Slush race was organised for men at Hairige pickup canal. This competition was dominated by people from agrarian community.

ZP member C T Rajanna and Taluk Panchayat member Prakash declared additional cash prizes to winners from their personal kitty and encouraged the participants. About 15 women created complicated yet beautiful wiggly patterns in rangoli with eye-catching colour combination.

Some women even used flower petals to decorate their creations.

Apart from Rangoli, there were competitions for women too such as balancing a filled pot , and a basket with Ragi on their heads. ZP members Devraj, Ramesh, TP President Bhagyamma, TP member Rangaswamy, former ZP member Ramesh Kumar and others took part in the events.
