When one of the small lakes in Harandur was getting spoilt, Taluk Panchayat Member Sanjay and Gram Panchayat President M C Ashok chalked out a plan to develop the same. A plan of Rs 20 lakh was prepared to develop the lake in the region with aid from World Bank by the State Government.

When contractors left the project half way due to some problem, Gangakere Balakedarara Sangha took up the task of lake development.

The villagers joined hands and dug 115 mts long canal to dredge the lake. Instead of laying canal to supply water from the lake to the farm land, the villagers decided to lay pipes.

Accordingly a pipeline of 1010 mts was laid and water was supplied to every farmland swiftly. Almost every farmland thus had a fountain of water sprinkling throughout the day.

Usage of pipeline had helped them in controlling wastage of water.Apart from water supply, Gangakere Balakedarara Sangha has now ventured into income generation. It has formed ten Self Help Groups and has extended financial aid to them.

Sangha President Jagadish Gowda, Secretary Krishnamurthy and team have completed the lake development work in six months by involving people in the project.
