In his hour-long performance, Hariharan sang a medley of songs, most of them all time hits — in Kannada and Hindi — entertaining young and old alike. His son Akshay also joined him later. The musical nite began with an ode to Goddess Chamundeshwari with the rendition of ‘Jai Durge’. When he reached the crescendo, nothing could stop the crowd from going gaga over him, a true genius for what he is known as ‘master entertainer.’

What followed the devotional was — our very own chartbuster ‘Savi Savi Nenapu..’ from Sudeep starrer ‘My Autograph’. By singing the song, he recreated the magic, thus swaying over the audience who imitated him as he swooned over clapping often thus adding to the mood, with the environs already charged high anticipating perfect time pass with some music to carry home. Suchi Smita, a singer of the troupe rendered a classical, to the connoisseurs of music who still have ears for traditional music. It was the return of the master singer again with all time musical hit ‘Roja jaaneman...’ from ‘Roja’. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the song in particular also brought to one’s mind another renowned music director A R Rahman, who has still remained unreachable as far as Yuva Dasara is concerned.

Earlier, the evening unfolded with ‘Yuva Sambhrama’. The troupes that had mesmerised the audience and selected for ‘Yuva Dasara,’ justified their performance. PG students of bio-technology, University of Mysore, staged a dance ballet ‘suprabhata’ to the applause of the gathering. A tribal dance by students of JSS College, Gundlupet, was the show-stopper what with a fire spitting youth and another with his acrobatics kept the gathering hooked to the dais. The inaugural session had local bonding with Kannada cine actor Aditya doing the honours. He went on a nostalgic tour remembering his early days as a kid was always curious to watch Dasara. He extended an invitation to all those who haven’t visited the city to visit soon.

Minister S A Ramdas, Yuva Dasara sub-committee chairman M P Rajesh, deputy special officer B Ramu and others were present.
