Arms haul in City, four arrested

Bashasab Nadaf (40) of Bijapur district, Dilshad (48), Mohammad Arif (30), both from Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, and Dhan Kaur (30) of Barwani district, Madhya Pradesh, were arrested by a special investigation team of the Central Crime Branch (CCB). As many as 19 pistols, five revolvers, 108 bullets, etc, all valued at Rs 50 lakh, were recovered from them.

The suspects, police say, procured the weapons from Pappi of Uttar Pradesh and Gurujeet Singh Barnala of Madhya Pradesh, and supplied them to the anti-social elements of various states.

Bashasab is believed to be involved in murders, dacoities, attempted murders, assaults, etc, reported in Bijapur district as well as Sangli district in Maharashtra. Ulsoorgate police have registered a case.

Electronic goods gutted
A fire that broke out due to an electric short circuit on the first floor of a hotel on Avenue Road on Monday morning destroyed electronic goods worth Rs one lakh.

The fire broke out in the hall of Chandra Vihar Hotel on MRR Lane, Avenue Road, around 9.15 am. Computers, air-conditioners, and other goods were destroyed in the mishap, the fire brigade said.  Two fire tenders doused the flames in about an hour. No casualty was reported.

Fake note lands him in jail
A 35-year-old man’s attempt to circulate a fake Rs 500 note while filling fuel at a petrol station on Tank Bund Road in Cottonpet not only landed him in trouble but also helped the police in recovering 3.5 kg opium from his possession.

Mohanlal (35) of Vijayanagar was arrested by the Cottonpet police when he was fleeing after his failed attempt.

Police have recovered 20 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination from Mohanlal and have seized the contraband he was trying to sell off in the City.

Mohanlal told the police that he got the currency notes from Balwant Singh, owner of a chemical shop in Chikpet. The contraband was sourced from Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
The contraband is valued at Rs 20 lakh in the international market.

Man dies in accident
Cheluvaraj, a 28-year-old auto driver from Kamalanagar was mowed down by a Qualis in Vijaynagar police station limits on Sunday night. According to the police, Cheluvuraj was walking on the street when Qualis driver Shrikant lost his balance over the wheels and knocked him down from behind. A case has been registered against the driver.
