Party sources said the meeting at 7 Race Course Road residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, was attended by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram and other senior ministers and party leaders.
Earlier, nine Congress MPs from Telangana region, who submitted their resignation letters to press for statehood, met Azad, who is Congress in-charge of Andhra affairs.
All the Congress MPs from the region except Keshav Rao, interacted with Azad for about an hour. Later, the MPs met at Rao’s residence to chalk out their future strategy.
Congress MP from Telangana, V Hanumantha Rao, who has not resigned, urged the agitators to participate in the meeting convened by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Reddy to thrash out the problem.
“They can decide on their next course of action after discussing with the chief minister,” Rao told reporters here.
