Akash is the unfortunate toddler, who plunged to his death in his bid to see his mother, Geetha, who was busy buying vegetables from a vendor after leaving her child unattended, around 11 am, police said.

Geetha was holding Akash in her hands on the terrace and her friend also accompanied her. Meanwhile, a vegetable vendor arrived at the street. Seeing him, the two women decided to go out and buy vegetables. Geetha, however, did not take Akash along, preferring to leave him unattended on the terrace for some inexplicable reason.

As Geetha went out, Akash began crawling his way to the parapet to see his mother. In moments, he reached the parapet which had gaps in between. Akash inched closer and slipped out of the gap in the parapet well.

Geetha was stunned to see her child fall on the ground and bleeding. Akash who sustained serious head injuries was immediately rushed to the M S Ramaiah Hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.

Police Inspector S D Chabbi said that though the cement parapet wall was tall enough, the gaps in between resulted in the toddler’s fall. Akash’s father, Keshava, is a plumber. Gangammanagudi police have booked a case of unnatural death.

Plumber electrocuted

Venkatesh (31), a resident of C K Garden, was working at a house next to a prominent jewellery store in Padmanabhanagar when the incident occurred. As Venkatesh dug into the building’s wall, he came in contact with the wire of the transformer installed by the jewellery store.

The Banashankari police have booked a case of causing death by negligence against the owner of the store and the Bescom contractor.
