The family members of the migrant labourer, Ganesh Nayak, had a harrowing time on Friday evening, as none of the villagers came forward to participate in his last rites, fearing contracting the dreaded disease.

A native of Tumba village in the Patrapur block of Ganjam district, 26-year-old Nayak  died in Pune on Wednesday after developing swine flu like symptoms. His body was brought to his village by an ambulance belonging to the Pune Municipal Corporation.

The distraught family of Nayak reportedly took his body outside the village and performed the last rites with great difficulty.
