Eswarappa meets BSY in jail

Last Updated 08 November 2011, 04:21 IST

The meeting is Eshwarappa’s first with Yeddyurappa after the latter was remanded into judicial custody over alleged illegal denotification of land on October 15.

Eshwarappa was accompanied by Prisons Minister A Narayanaswamy and party functionary M P Kumar. The timing of the BJP state president’s meeting with Yeddyurappa comes at a time when the party has to finalise its candidate for the crucial Bellary Rural by-election scheduled for November 30.

The BJP is also apparently in a flux following the recent boycott of senior leader L K Advani’s public meeting in Bangalore by Yeddyurappa supporters. Yeddyurappa is said to have taken serious exception to Advani holding his rally in Bangalore, despite his insistence against it being organised while he was in jail. Yeddyurappa supporters including 12 ministers had boycotted the public meeting to register their unhappiness.

The speculation in the party circles is that Yeddyurappa is likely to assert himself soon after he is out of prison. The Karnataka High Court is likely to pronounce its order on Yeddyurappa’s second bail application on Tuesday. Last week, the court allowed the bail application by Yeddyurappa in one of the two complaints in which he has landed in jail.
