A slice of Karnataka

The Vaishali Kasaravalli-directed Moodalamane was perhaps the first
serial to bring the rich and vibrant culture of North Karnataka to the television audience, which was fed on a diet of Tamil and Balaji Films manufactured serials and shows. It soon gathered a tremendous fan following and spawned several clones in its wake.

Now, ETV Kannada brings another such serial.

Mahanavami, directed by Nagaraj Advani presents to viewers, a look at the lifestyle of the Desais and their women. Mahanavami is the tale of Kaveri, the youngest daughter-in-law of the Desai family.

An orphan raised by her maternal uncle Sadashiva, Kaveri is married into the
Desai family. Is it a fairy-tale marriage? Apparently not, as she leads a lonely existence as a virtual widow with a paltry allowance even though her husband is alive.
Mahanavami will premiere on August 24 and air every Monday to Friday at 7 pm on ETV Kannada.

A classic romance

HBO presents Leatherheads at 9 pm on August 22 starring George Clooney, Renee Zellweger, John Krasinski and Jonathan Pryce. George Clooney and Renee Zellweger match wits in this rapid fire romantic comedy set against the backdrop of America’s pro-football league in 1925.

Clooney is a grizzled football coach who recruits a golden boy war hero and star athlete (Krasinski) to increase the team’s profile. Zellweger is a cub reporter who suspects the tales of heroism might be phony.

Soon, both men are fighting for her affections, and the combination of her investigations, the team’s pursuit of the championship, and the romantic triangle make for one madcap comedy.

A fast-paced animated comedy

Nick presents the cult comic series, Oggy and the Cockroaches. The show is a catastrophic confrontation between a cat and his unwelcome tenants — three cheeky cockroaches. The brand new side-splitting show will premiere on Nick on August 24. It starts Monday to Friday at 5.30 pm with a repeat telecast every Monday to Friday at 3 pm.
