The muddy water flowed from the taps at nearly 150 houses, enraging the residents in the early hours.

The company that has been entrusted with the task of operation and maintenance had overhauled the existing water lines with modifications for 24x7 water supply in ward number 25 in Vijayanagar.  However, all its efforts went in vain when the water — unfit even to be used for other purposes — flowed from the taps.

When contacted, executive engineer of Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) Subramanya said the muddy water was the result of pipes damaged at the time of remodelling of the line. It is only after the public complained about the matter, did JUSCO men became aware of the incident.

Subsequently, the water was flushed out and damages were plugged at places. To avoid further trouble, the line was also cleaned using bleaching powder. Not to neglect the plight of the water consumers, three tankers were pressed into service. The engineer said normal water supply will be restored only after studying the condition on Saturday. However, he clarified that the temporary arrangements have been made to cater to the demand for water. This is not for the first time such an incident has occurred. Earlier in Saraswatipuram, the residents had to struggle for nearly a week, as muddy water flowed from the taps. The JUSCO had remodelled the water line only to find itself in the dock later.
