Girl dies trying to imitate suicide scene

Inspired by crime thrillers, a 12-year-old girl allegedly tried to imitate a scene from television serial and killed herself on Tuesday.

The incident took place in an apartment at Thakurpukur in the south west fringes of the city, where Amali Thakurta- a student of class-V in a local missionary school, was found hanging inside her playroom.  

According to the police, the initial investigation revealed that the girl, fond of television serials and crime thrillers, was trying to imitate a suicide scene in a TV serial using her mother’s dopatta and accidentally got strangulated and died.

According to Amali’s mother Sonali: “She was playing in her playroom after returning from school and we were all busy with our household works. When, after some time, we didn’t hear any sound from her room, we rushed to find her dead”.
 
According to an investigating officer: “She was taller than other girls of her age group and by pushing a low stool she tried to imitate a scene from the serial by hanging form the ceiling.

“She lost her balance and got strangulated. She couldn’t even shout and had an unfortunate death.”
