SJCC edge out resilient SRM

St Joseph’s College of Commerce (SJCC) edged past SRM University 8-6 via tie-breaker to win the first game in the hockey competition of Vagus Vie 2012, the all-India sports fest organised by Jain University, at the KSHA stadium on Sunday. 

St Joseph’s and SRM were tied 4-4 after regulation. PU Kuttappa opened the scoring for St Joseph’s in the fourth minute. Shan Bopaiah then struck a brace in the 14th and 17th minutes to make it 3-0. Sivamani reduced the deficit for SRM with goals in the 21st and 22nd minutes.    

It was 4-2 for the Josephites in the 24th minute before SRM achieved parity.
Results: SJCC: 8 (PU Kuttappa 4th, Shan Bopaiah 14th, 17th, Dhanush Nanaiah 24th) bt SRM University: 6 (Sivamani 21st, 22nd, 38th, 42nd) via tie-breaker. FT: 4-4; Royal College, Sri Lanka: 8 (Dhanuj A 4th, 34th, Shaheel 5th, Malithra 17th, W Uwais 36th, 42nd, Susanga 38th, 48th) bt Jain Engineering College: 0; Anna Malai University: 5 (Arvind 5th, 10th, Muddappa 6th, Paulsesa 16th, 36th) bt St Josephs Arts and Science College: 1 (Changappa 28th).
