However, it was smooth passage for other fancied players Maaz Khan, Sai Pranav and S Vignesh, who all made the last-eight round without much fuss.
Top seed in the girls’ under-14 section, Rashmika Rajan began her campaign in fine style, coasting past Shriya Vivek 8-1 in the first round.
The top seed in the boys’ under-12 singles competition, Rohan Reddy, blanked Roshan Prashantha 8-0 to advance to the next round.
