The High Court has directed the Department of Primary and Secondary Education (DPSE) to post on its website details regarding the expenditure for providing drinking water and toilet facilities to each primary and high school across the State.
Hearing a petition by City-based advocate and party in person A V Amarnathan, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna directed the DPSE to post the details related to financial expenditure within 15 days after counsel Amarnathan mentioned that there is no reference about the amount spent for construction of these facilities.
During the hearing, Secretary, DPSE Kumar Naik filed an affidavit giving details of the toilets completed.
As on March 3, 2012, the department has provided 46,309 boys toilets to primary schools and only 34 schools are now pending.
As many as 46,346 girls toilets have been completed and only nine are pending, he said.
