Wazid Pasha, a first standard student was killed on the spot in the collapse, caused by the digging  of earth to a depth of 12 feet to lay foundation on an adjacent site. The earth was dug by Pasha’s father, Abdul Aziz to carry out some construction work.

While the work weakened the foundation of the house, the poor quality materials used in the building also contributed to its collapse, police said. Besides, water had accumulated in the trench due to rains. The house was constructed about 25 years ago. The plan of the house was also not in order, said the police and added that exact cause for the incident will be known once the investigations are completed.

Police said Aziz, the owner of the house and was a merchant of rags and had stored rags in the ground floor of his house, while staying with his family members on the first floor. Immediately after the collapse, neighbours gathered near Aziz’s house and helped them evacuate. All those injured in the incident were shifted to a nearby hospital. Their condition is now stable. Senior police officials visited the spot.
