Anand Vihar bus terminal all set for facelift

The Anand Vihar inter-state bus terminal is all set for a revamp as it would be devloped as a multi-modal transit centre that will integrate bus, Metro and railway services.

Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS) will begin work on the ambitious project once the Delhi Urban Art Commission gives its approval to the project.

“The Delhi Development Authority has forwarded the proposal on our behalf to the Delhi Urban Arts Commission. The work related to the project will be put into action after a formal clearance from the commission,” said a DIMTS spokesperson.

The Anand Vihar ISBT, which will be developed on an area of 9.2 hectares is estimated to incur a cost of Rs 200 crore. The project is likley to take 20 months for completion. 

“The ISBT will be a multi-modal integration point. It will have both a Metro station as well as a bus parking facility, apart from provision for cars, autos, taxis and two-wheelers,” said the spokesperson.

 “There will be a well-planned network of foot overbridges, escalators and elevators to allow easy and safe movement of pedestrians between the terminal, Metro and railway stations,” he added.

The officials said the terminal, which will have the provision for parking 207 buses, 171 autos, 27 taxis, 438 two-wheelers and 1,438 cars, will have separate entrances and exits for buses, autos and taxis to avoid any clash between different modes of transport.

In order to cater to the needs of commuters, the project will also inculde development of commercial areas, including a shopping arcade, restaurants and a food court.

“There is a provision to build a hotel within the area as well. This will help the terminal to generate revenue,” a DIMTS official said.

Other facilities at the bus terminal include provision of suitable ventilation and air conditioning system, CCTV and other security equipment.

Apart from being environment-friendly, the plan and architecture of the terminal would also take care of the needs of the differently abled people.
