Burglars strike house in Birur


The house named ‘Sulochana Nilaya’ belonging to the proprietor of Nagendra Stores, C V Nagendra Shetty was burgled at about 11 15 am and ornaments estimated to be worth Rs 8 lakhs were stolen along with cash of Rs 1 lakh. The burglars had assaulted the family members during the execution of their plans.

It is said that a team of five members who were waiting outside the house in a Swift car gained entry into the house as soon as Nagendra Shetty left the house to complete some bank works at 11.15 am.

Shetty’s father Venkatrama Shetty, his uncle Sri Rama Shetty and other relatives were engaged in a conversation when the group barged in and threatened them. Frightened by this, women in the house gave away 2 gold chains, 3 diamond rings, 14 bangles, one mangalsutra, one pair of ear rings, one gold ring, 2 mobiles and cash of Rs 1 lakh, pleading not to harm the family members. Taking all the ornaments, the burglars locked five members of the family in the prayer room. When Sri Ram Shetty protested, he was thrashed hard on his eyes. The group also assaulted family member Lalithamma on her lips with a sickle. They later opened two cup boards in the house and took away the remaining cash.
SP S N Nagaraj visited the house and collected details of the incident from the family members. It is said that Sri Ram Shetty has identified two persons from a set of photographs which were shown to him by the police. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts were brought to the spot.
