<p>The newly-built Orion mall in the City was flooded with youngsters recently, as the ‘Help Us Gathering Smiles’ (HUGS) Group from Dayananda Sagar Institutions organised a flash mob there. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The purpose of the flash mob was to spread awareness about the importance of <br />walking.<br /><br />The students seemed to come out of nowhere and left the crowd bewildered and impressed with their brilliant performance. <br /><br />The ‘HUGS’ team successfully gathered a crowd of at least 2,500 people. <br /><br />The audience was completely in awe of the 70 odd students who were performing various dance forms such as hip-hop, B-boying, robotic acts and popular Bollywood numbers. <br /><br />The performance was specially in honour of ‘World Dance Day’, which took place recently.<br />The group jived to the latest Bollywood numbers, leaving people asking for more. ‘HUGS’ conducts flash mobs in order to spread social awareness. <br /><br />“I think the best way to bring youngsters together for a social cause is to add a fun element to your campaign and a flash mob is the best way to do this,” said Ramesh Bheekaram, a third-year student of the college and also one of the organisers of the flash mob.<br /><br />The participants had a great deal of fun performing. For most of them, this was a new experience. <br /><br />“It was fun, as this is the first time I’ve been part of a flash mob. Though I was initially nervous, I began enjoying it once I started with the thing,” said an excited Nidhi Shetty. <br />Another participant, Mimansa Ojha, found it interesting. <br /><br />“It was awesome and I liked seeing people smile. The flash mob wasn’t only about dancing – it went beyond that. I did it for the first time in my life and now I want <br />to do this everyday,” said Mimansa. <br /><br />Anand Naik, another participant in the flash mob, said, “I enjoyed every bit of it though I’m not a dancer. <br /><br />The main motive was to convey a message to the public. I’m really glad to be <br />a part of it and look forward to participating in more flash mobs around the <br />City.”<br /><br />Team HUGS had the undivided attention of the crowd beside the lakeside promenade, which gave them the perfect ambience to perform in. <br /></p>
