94 pc of caste census work over

The socio-economic and caste census has covered 94 per cent of the State and will be completed in the coming days. 

According to an official press release, the census has covered 1.19 lakh enumeration blocks out of the total 1.26 lakh blocks. 

There are several firsts in the current census. For the first time since 1931, caste has figured in the questionnaire in a census conducted by the Union government. Besides, it has been extended beyond the rural boundaries to cover urban pockets. The State government has now fixed the time frame for supervisory work, publication of draft and final list.

The State government will be publishing the draft list on June 15. The public will be given an opportunity to verify and file claims and objections.
