Sadananda to consult leaders on Cabinet expansion

Last Updated 11 May 2012, 18:47 IST

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda is likely to start the process of consultation with the party central leadership to expand his Cabinet.

Various factions have been lobbying to get Cabinet berths. A section led by Chikmagalur MLA C T Ravi has been conducting a signature campaign  to induct fresh faces into the Cabinet.

The party central leaders had asked Gowda to wait till the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict on the CEC recommendation for a CBI probe against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Friday’s Supreme Court verdict might have come as a relief for Gowda and party State president K S Eshwarappa, who had been at the receiving end of the former chief minister’s various revolts.

Gowda is likely to leave for New Delhi on Sunday or early next week for consultation with the central leadership.

Yeddyurappa remained closeted with his supporters at his Race Course Road residence on Friday evening. Some of his loyalists are said to have advised Yeddyurappa to quit the BJP and “teach Gowda a lesson”. The camp is meeting at 9 am on Saturday to decide their next course of action.
