The building eviction drive, to facilitate laying of drinking water pipeline to supply water to Kadur and Birur towns from river Bhadra, was restarted on Wednesday in Birur.

The drive was led by Town Municipal Council Chief Officer Omkarmurthy.

Last week, the drive was led by in-charge Chief Officer of Kadur Town Municipal Council H N Manjunath. Some of the building owners had move to Court against the drive but Manjunath went ahead pulling down even those buildings last week.

Till Tuesday, almost all the buildings in the town were cleared off both by eviction drive and some buildings by the owners themselves. Despite this, the Council officials, on Wednesday took a round in the city ensuring that all buildings coming within the extent of 50 feet on either sides of the road have been cleared off.

Announcing that all buildings within the said extent should be evicted, the officials who came to the city along with the JCB machine cleared off some buildings, which were left untouched.

Speaking to Deccan Herald S Omkarmurthy said that the Council’s priority is to execute the drinking water project at the earliest and in this regard it needs co-operation of the people in the city.
