Bharat Forge Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Baba Kalyani, on Friday, criticised the government authorities (central and state) for delay in clearing projects.

He was speaking in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda at the curtain raiser of the second edition of India Manufacturing Show (IMS 2012). Kalyani, who is also the Co-Chairman of the IMS 2012 Advisory Committee, said, “The manufacturing policy speaks about India’s manufacturing sector contributing 25 per cent to the GDP by the year 2022. The sector has the ability to do that but we need to ensure that the processes to set up industries are simplified. We face too many barriers and roadblocks, for instance, land acquisition, connectivity, number of clearances and permissions.”

He opined that the process of setting up a company in the West is much faster and transparent, adding, “Indian entrepreneurs are excelling more outside India as there is dearth of encouragement for them in the country.”

However, Chief Minister Gowda defended saying, “The small and medium industries along with the large ones contribute significantly to the country’s socio-economic development by way of employment generation and revenue contribution to the exchequer. It is my government’s vision to make Karnataka Asia’s epicentre for engineering manufacturing in the Aerospace, Automotive, Energy and Infrastructure sectors.”

At the same event, the Minister for Large & Medium Scale Industries, Murugesh Nirani, said, “The business-to-business meetings and technical seminars at IMS will give a tremendous boost to the quality of industries, making them more competent and robust. This event will help all industries in terms of improving their knowledge and best practices.”

IMS 2012 Organising Committee Chairman H V S Krishna pointed out that the event will have 200 international participants. The IMS 2012 is to be held between September 27 and 30, 2012 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.
