Gautam Gambhir’s cousin and his uncle were arrested on Monday for attacking a BPO cab driver at Karol Bagh in central Delhi in a road rage case, police said.

Raghav Gambhir, 25, the cricketer’s first cousin and Mahendra Pal Manchanda, 60, Raghav’s uncle were arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody, said additional commissioner of police (central) Devesh Srivastava. He added that the two  men confessed to the crime saying, they acted in a fit of rage.

Police received information of the accused’s whereabouts at Dhaula Kuan. “They were arrested in Dhaula Kuan this morning. They were on the run,” Srivastava said.

They told police that they went into hiding in Rajasthan and Haryana. Police said they have no relatives there and that the accused went there only to remain away from Delhi.

After their arrest, they confessed to the crime saying they had done so in a fit of rage. Police are probing into the allegations that the victim was threatened by accused to withdraw the case.

Daughter of Jaspal Singh had alleged that she was threatened by the accused to withdraw the case.
Earlier, they bashed up cab driver Jaspal Singh after their car was scraped by his vehicle on Pusa Road in the Karol Bagh at 1 am on May 23.

They allegedly also threatened policemen who reached the spot near Fortis Hospital, telling the cops that they were “very influential and well connected people”.
