New kind of comedy

Entertaining Performance

It was a laughter riot for those who attended the comedy hip-hop show at Alliance Francaise recently. The duo Aurelien Kairo and Abderzak Houmi, well-known French hip-hop comedians, were in the City as part of an international tour. Alliance Francaise had also invited some underprivileged children to watch the show.

The duo gave a taste of a new genre of comedy to the city-dwellers. “What we saw was very new. This is the first time that I have even heard of this concept of comedy and I did not know what to expect. But both performers are hilarious and we couldn’t stop laughing,” says Melanie, who came for the show.

The act rolled out in the form of a story and the duo enacted the scenes in a unique way which had a lot of hip-hop moves. Coupled with a good sense of comic timing and some incredible dance moves, the show was an instant hit. The head stands and the back flips were appreciated by the audience as well.

It took the audience some time to grasp their style but that didn’t deter the duo, who came up with some spontaneous moves on stage as well.

“I can’t speak English very well but I enjoyed performing in Bangalore. I feel the audience enjoyed it and we are looking forward to performing in India,” says  Abderzak.

However, it was the ending which stole the show. The story reached a point where the duo enacted the famous ‘man’s first walk in space’ in their own style. The costume and the music were innovative and their comic timing was perfect.

“We keep inviting artistes from across the world to perform in the City and we were especially interested in inviting this duo as they are entertainers and do something which is very different form normal stand-up comedy shows. The audience liked it too,” says Anuradha, who is in charge of cultural affairs at Alliance Francaise.
