Play on Manto's short stories

On the occasion of the birth centenary of renowned Urdu poet and playwright Sadat Hasan Manto, his play will be staged by Parivartana troupe in Mysore on June 24, at 6.30 pm at Bhoomigeeta in Rangayana.

A play or a collage of his short stories, based on communal riots and the heart wrenching stories of partition, will be enacted by Parivartana. The play titled ‘Kappu Anchina Kempu Nakshatra’ has been directed by S R Ramesh.

Gymkhana champion

The Mysore Gymkhana emerged champions in both ‘I-division’ and ‘Sri M Gopalaswamy Memorial Tournament’ conducted by The Karnataka State Cricket Association, Mysore Zone, for the year 2012.

A prize distribution ceremony was recently held with dignitaries such as Javagal Srinath, honorary secretary Karnataka State Cricket Association, Vijay Prakash, convenor, Mysore zone, KSCA, T Ravindra, honarary secretary, The Mysore Gymkhana are participating in the event.


City’s renowned Karateka K Vijaykumar has been designated as joint director for Karnanataka State Kickboxing Association from April 1.

Janapada Jahnavi award

Scholar Anasuya Kempanahalli has been conferred with Janapada Jahnavi award for having carried out research in folklore.

Anasuya Kempanahalli released a book recently chronicling her research.
De Ja Gow presented this honour to Anasuya Kempanahalli at an event organised by Mukhya Prana Cultural Academy recently.
