Goals from Venkatesh and Sampath Kumar helped Karnataka State Police (KSP) record a 2-1 win over a spirited Students Union in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football stadium on Tuesday.

KSP recovered from their defeat to KGF Sports Academy in the last match to move to seven points from five games after their second victory. Students Union are on six points from five matches. Venkatesh’s goal came in the 43rd minute while Sampath struck in the 57th minute of the game. Philip scored for Students in the 67th minute.

Both the teams took their time to get into the groove with Students Union having the first shout of the game. Philip’s shot in the seventh minute cleared KSP custodian but was disallowed as the former was marginally off-side.

KSP had an opportunity to score in the 13th minute but Sampath’s shot from outside the penalty area went wide off the left post. Kiran Kumar went clear on a through ball from Sampath in the 35th minute but smashed the ball straight into Students custodian Tony’s hands. Venkatesh, however, found the net in 43rd minute when he headed in off a Arun Kumar corner as KSP went 1-0 up at the breather.

Students brought in Vinod for Bharath when the game resumed and looked a rejuvenated side.

Sampath upset Students plans with KSP’s second goal in the 57th minute when he slammed home off a Karthik M pass from the left. Ten minutes later, Philip tapped in off a Vinod pass as Students made a comeback. A chance went abegging for KSP in the 77th minute when Karthik M, who came in for Kiran Kumar in the 48th minute, struck a shot that hit the right goalpost.

Students made a gallant effort to level scores in the last 15 minutes. In the 80th minute, Abubaker was unlucky when his shot from the edge of the box brushed the crossbar. Philip’s powerful shot in the 82nd minute through the right flew over the crosspiece.‘A’ Division result: DYSS: 1 (Sunil Kumar 66th) bt SAI: 0
