To evolve a convergence of strategies for improving safety of women in the city, police commissioner Neeraj Kumar interacted with various non-government organisations, government agencies and individuals working in the field of women’s safety and empowerment.

In the meet which took place last week, Kumar discussed making the city more secure for women to protect their right to freedom of movement and safety.  The meeting discussed the strategies and campaigns to resist deviant behaviour and make public spaces safer for women at all times of day and night.  After the meet, Kumar laid out a road map for the safety of women in the city.He said Delhi Police standing order on women’s safety will be revised and the views of NGOs, if practicable, will be incorporated in it. He also said strict instructions will be issued to all police stations to refrain from dissuading women complainants from getting FIRs registered.  Also, efforts for reconciliation between women victims and their tormentors would be initiated only if both parties are agreeable and no coercion, whatsoever, is resorted to.Police will regularly organise self-defence programmes in Jamia Nagar and New Friends Colony areas. The police stations in these areas will be sensitised to deal with women complainants, particularly students, with empathy.
