Congress, BJP hail apex court verdict

The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death sentence given to Ajmal Kasab, the lone Pakistani terrorist caught alive after 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and demanded his speedy execution.

“Now, he should be given sentence quickly. Punishment should be executed quickly,” said Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh reacting to the apex court decision on Kasab's appeal against his conviction and sentence.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stressed that no leniency should be shown to Kasab, who “should be hanged without delay” “No leniency should be shown against this kind of a terrorist. They have tried to destroy the peace of the nation, so he (Kasab) should be hanged as fast as possible,” Naqvi said.

He further stressed that "those who wage war against the country and kill innocents deserve no mercy ... Kasab should be hanged without any delay ... enough of biryani for him”.

The BJP leader described Pakistan as “a terror factory” and said the government “must take all steps to destroy” terror infrastructure.
