Demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over allocation of coal blocks, Bharatiya Jan Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers on Wednesday staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar, raising anti-government slogans.

BJYM national president Anurag Thakur and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi Pradesh president Vijender Gupta led the demonstration.

Police detained the demonstrators for a while when they proceeded towards the Prime Minister’s Office. Anurag Thakur said the BJP will not remain silent over the ‘corrupt practices’ of the government.

“The UPA-II government has broken all records of corruption. Every day some scam is exposed and entire Congress government and the Congress party start covering up that scam. This government is the government of scams,” said Thakur, who also complained about rising prices.

Vijender Gupta said the government that claims to be the protector of the Constitution does not believe in it as it has rubbished the report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on coal block allocations.

“When the constitutional body like CAG has accused the Prime Minister directly of corruption of 1.86 lakh crore rupees then the law requires that Manmohan Singh should resign for an impartial and  transparent enquiry into it, so that the investigating agencies may not be pressurised by the PMO,” said Gupta, demanding punishment for the guilty.
