A creative exploration of stories

Last Updated 17 September 2012, 13:13 IST

A storytelling performance and workshop by contemporary storyteller Jo Blake Cave will be held at the British Council on September 26, 6.30 pm.

The British Council, in partnership with Nivesh India, is also supporting the ‘International Storytelling Festival’, to be held in New Delhi from September 23 to 29.  These workshops and performances aim to showcase UK’s creativity in storytelling for young learners and adults and introduce them to a new art form to develop their creative talent, comprehension and storytelling skills, enhancing their imagination through creative exploration of stories.

The workshops and performances will be facilitated and run by eminent storytellers, Xanthe Gresham and Jo Blake Cave, who will also be performing at the ‘International Storyteller Festival’, New Delhi. This programme is supported by Oxford Bookstore and RP-SG group.

Jo Blake Cave is a contemporary storyteller based in Northamptonshire, England. She is an associate lecturer on the BA acting degree course at the University of Northampton. She has gained first class honours in Performing Arts at the University of Winchester and an MA with distinction in Dance Theatre from Laban.  She is currently studying for a practice-based Ph D in performance storytelling at the University of Chichester.

As a part of the performance, Jo Blake Cave will invite the audience to walk with her into the edgelands: where night and day, truth and illusion, human and other meet. Drawing inspiration from the landscape in which she lives at the crossing-place of Britain, Jo will talk of how boggarts leap among the reeds, fish can speak, foxes heal and shoes take on a life of their own.

The workshop will also be held on September 26, 11.30 am to 4.30 pm at Oxford Bookstore (Leela Galleria), Old Airport Road. The fee is Rs 1,000 (for members) and Rs 1,200 (for non-members). In this workshop, Jo Blake Cave invites you to discover the most ancient of the narrative arts. The workshop is recommended for teachers, trainers, educators, drama students or anyone who uses story and imagination in their work.

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis. For details, call 22489220 or log on to bl.bangalore@in.britishcouncil.org
