JOIN USA man has been arrested in the Capital for impersonating as an investigation officer with the High Court’s vigilance department. He cheated several people, assuring them that he has good relations with court officials and will sort out their pending litigations, police said.
Rakshit Kumar Gautam, 25, of Vishwas Park at Uttam Nagar was arrested in Janakpuri of west Delhi on Saturday, said additional commissioner of Police (west) V Renganathan.
After complaints were registered by two women on Friday with Janakpuri police station, Gautam was arrested.
First complaint
The first complaint was filed by Neelam Rani of Janta Flats at Janakpuri.
Neelam told police that a man named Rakshit Kumar Gautam, posing as an investigation officer of vigilance department of High Court, had taken Rs 1.8 lakh for court fees and Rs 1.85 lakh as his own fees for settling a dispute, in her favour, regarding her property at Savitri Nagar in Malviya Nagar of south Delhi.
Second complaint
The second complaint was filed by Neelam’s neighbour, Kusum Lata, who was cheated by Gautam with the same modus operandi.
Kusum came to know about Gautam after Neelam discussed the issue with her.
On the same day, Kusum lodged a complaint against Gautam with Janakpuri police station. She told police that Gautam promised to settle even her property dispute and asked Rs 2.5 lakh.
She had paid Rs 1.5 lakh in advance and Gautam would come to her home on Saturday to collect the remaining amount.
Police then laid a trap outside Kusum’s house on Saturday and nabbed Gautam.
Gautam told police that he used to cheat illiterate people who could not understand the documents prepared by him at various courts.
“We have recovered his forged identity card of Delhi High Court, a fake seal of the court and other forged documents relating to court,” said Renganathan.
Gautam told police that he graduated from Moti Lal Nehru College.
He then worked as an accounts assistant with an ayurvedic company in Daryaganj for a year.
He left the company and started working as PVC supplier from Delhi to Bangalore.
Finally, he started taking contracts construction and repair work on buildings.
