Final hearing of PIL on gutkha ban on October 5

The High Court has reserved the final hearing of a public interest litigation filed by the Cancer Patients Aid Association, Bangalore over the gutkha ban in the State for October 5.

The PIL said that the ban on gutkha and other tobacco products was a sensitive issue as it was affecting the health of lakhs of people in the State.

Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat had already banned gutkha and the State should follow suit, the petition said.
