Last Updated 18 September 2012, 19:16 IST

The High Court on Tuesday disposed of a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) related to the murder of S P Mahantesh, Deputy Director of Co-operative audit.

The Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen disposed of the case following the submission by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) ACP Guled, who was present in the Court on Tuesday, stating that charge sheet has been filed against the accused in the murder case.
Since the charge sheet was filed, there was no need of a PIL, the Court said.

Following the murder of Mahantesh, stories appeared in the media, including the alleged
affairs of Mahantesh.

Based on news reports the Court interfered and registered a suo motu PIL at that instant. Mahantesh, who was conducting an audit of House Building Co-Operative Societies, was attacked on Palace Road on May 15, a few metres away from the Vidhana Soudha. The attack in front of the official residence of the Chief Justice of the State, was so brutal that he subsequently died in a hospital on May 20.
