'Karnataka Kala Poshaka' award for Mohan Alva

Speaking to the media persons here on Friday, Namma Tuluver Kala Sangatane President Sukumar Mohan informed that the award will be presented at the valedictory ceremony of 24th ‘Navaragotsava-2009,’ a week -long theatre play festival organised by the Sanagatane on September 27.

Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Natak Academy President Dr B V Rajaram informed that the Academy is taking initiatives to promote theatre culture among youths and school going children.

The Academy in association with Kannada Pusthaka Pradhikara is bringing out a volume ‘Rangadarshini’ comprising 1,000 photographs of some of the excellent plays that were staged since 150 years, he said.

A programme ‘Shaleyatta Rangabhumi’ will be organised in as many as 175 government schools in the State to encourage students to take up theatre as the leisurely pursuit.
CDs on  Karnataka theatre is distributed freely to the government schools. Competitions are held for the college students in the month of November and December.
Bhuvanaendra College in Karkala will be the first venue in the district for the competition, he informed.

The Academy has brought out 4 to 5 books on present period theatre personalities in the State.

 Plans are on to publish a book comprising the information of various theatre groups in the State, Mr Rajaram said.
