UP Cong leaders to emulate Rahul

Last Updated 01 October 2009, 17:22 IST

All senior leaders, Union ministers from the state as well as MPs and MLAs will spend a night at Dalit homes to have a “first-hand experience of their (Dalits’) problems and plight”.

UP Congress president Reeta Bahuguna Joshi, who will also be staying at a Dalit home, said the leaders would also take part in community feasts to be organised on the occasion.

The programme, which is certain to draw the ire of BSP supremo Mayawati, comes close on the heels of Rahul’s recent “unscheduled” and “unannounced” visit to the state during which he spent a night at a Dalit home in the backward Shravasti district.

Rahul has been visiting Dalit households at regular intervals in an apparent bid to woo them back to the Congress’ fold. Mayawati has termed Rahul’s visits a “nautanki” (drama) aimed at gaining political mileage.
