Manhunt for money looters

Last Updated 05 October 2012, 20:17 IST

Hulimavu police have intensified their search for a gang of four which looted Rs 65 lakh from a vehicle transporting the cash belonging to Union Bank.

A six-member team was proceeding towards Bannerghatta Road via Nice Road after loading cash into the ATMs at Coles Park, Madivala and Electronics City.

A gang of four followed the cash van in two bikes, smashed the window of the vehicle, threw chilli powder at the personnel and fled with the  cash boxes in seconds on Thursday evening, according to a staff in the vehicle.

Two of the six personnel are absconding and the remaining four are giving contradictory statements, police said. As per the rules, the vehicle should not take the Nice Road route and hence the role of insiders is being suspected, sources said.

The police have taken security guard Jagadish and Union Bank staffers Ajith, Manjunath and Keshav into custody for interrogation. “We are on the look out for suspects. We will arrest them soon,” said Mico Layout sub-division ACP, H Veerabhadre Gowda.
