Burglars loot cash, gold from SBI

Thieves made away with valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore from a nationalised bank at Kadaganchi in Aland taluk, about 25 km from here.

The thieves gained entry into the Kadaganchi branch of State Bank of India late on Friday night by forcing open the back door of the bank.

An estimated Rs 46 lakh in cash and 4 kg of gold were spirited away by the gang, according to police.  Closed-circuit TV cameras installed inside the bank were destroyed by the thieves.

The theft was discovered when the watchman entered the bank Saturday morning. He informed bank manager Prahlad Patil, who lodged a complaint with the Narona police.

IGP Wazir Ahmed of North Eastern Range, additional SP Kashinath Talkeri and others visited the bank.    

An investigation has been launched.
