'C'magalur tops in ration card distribution'

Food and Civil Supplies Minister and Chikmagalur District-in-Charge Minister D N Jeevraj has claimed that Chikmagalur district is ahead of other districts in ration card distribution. He assured that the card distribution process would finish within 15 days.

Addressing a press conference after Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations in City on Thursday, Jeevraj said that the ration cards have been distributed to 49,000 families which have produced biometric documents. Around 5000 cards are yet to be distributed which will be completed at earliest. The process of identifying new beneficiaries would begin by the end of this month, he said.

Jeevraj said that ‘Point of sale’ machines will be fixed in every ration shops of the district so that a transparent ration system would become true. “Karnataka is the only state to introduce biometric system for the distribution of ration cards. Union government has hailed the State for its achievement in recently held all-state food ministers” meeting.
Meanwhile, he said that an engineering college has been sanctioned for the district and it would help middle class and poor people. ‘Engineering college will be ready by next academic year. Steps will be taken to start construction work at the site which was reserved for Food Park earlier.

A proposal has been sent for a medical college in the district and we have got a positive response from the chief minister,” he added.    

“The government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore for the development of cities. Rs 5 crore each will be spent for the development of 5 towns of the district. Along with this, the government has agreed the proposal of constructing 30 km of CMGSY road in every taluk and we will get Rs 30 crore for the cause. Moodigere, Sringeri and Koppa taluks get Rs 5 crore each under far and interior area development project,” he said.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter will visit Sringeri on November 10 and he will be
inaugurating various construction works. He will inaugurate community hall in Kigga and would inaugurate various projects in Tarikeri as well, he said.

City Municipal Council President C R Prem Kumar, party leaders Kote Ranganath, Kanakaraj Ars, Manjunath were at the press meet.
