Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has categorically stated that he would not stay in the BJP, come what may.

He told mediapersons here on Sunday that some MLAs and ministers including Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar were trying to persuade him not to quit BJP out of love for him.

“Whatever they say, I will not remain in the BJP. However, the date to quit the party has not been finalised. Reports that I will resign from the BJP’s primary membership on November 6 is just a rumour.”

Persistent efforts

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar stated that the attempts to persuade Yeddyurappa to remain in the BJP have continued. Housing Minister V Somanna said: “Yeddyurappa is our undisputed leader, and he will not quit the party.”

Shettar opined that the return of S M Krishna to State politics will not make any difference. The Congress party had been defeated in the State under Krishna’s leadership, he added.

Honnalli for KJP?

Former Congress minister and Anjuman-e-Islam president Jabbarkhan Honnalli is expected to join the KJP, the new political party to be launched by Yeddyurappa.

On Sunday, Honnalli met Yeddyurappa in Hubli and held discussion with him. Honnalli said: “Yeddyurappa has assured me that he will provide Rs 1,000 crore for the welfare of Muslim community, and I have faith in his words.”
