<p>The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), situated on the Manasagangotri campus, University of Mysore (UoM), will henceforth be called ‘Mukta Gangotri’.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The decision was taken at a meeting of the board of management, chaired by Vice Chancellor K S Rangappa, recently. <br /><br />The university was identified with the Manasagangotri since its establishment.<br />The management decided to retain ‘Gangotri’ in honour of litterateur Kuvempu, who named the UoM ‘Manasagangotri.’ <br /><br />Indicating concept<br /><br />‘Mukta’ also means ‘open’, that aptly indicates the concept of the open university.<br /><br />The Open University spread on 30 acres of land adjacent to the Manasagangotri campus, has more than 3.5 lakh students across the world. <br /><br />Candidates from Sri Lanka, Dubai and other countries have taken up online programmes and other courses at the university.<br /></p>
