Queuing up for St Joseph’s Boys High School admission forms for their children, hundreds of parents braved the chill of night on Friday. They were in no mood to take chances as the queue that started on Friday afternoon got longer through the night.

Parents were at the school gates as early as 12 noon on Friday to avail the admissions forms for the LKG and UKG that the school will start issuing on Saturday at 8.30 am.

Poonacha, a young parent, has been standing in the line from around 9.30 pm to get an admission form for his four-year-old son.

“There is a big rush for this school because the fee is around Rs 30,000 and very reasonable.

“I am not even looking at private schools whose annual fee is a person’s entire salary for a year.”

The school will issue around 2,000 forms for 250 seats and there is a huge rush for obvious reasons, said Poonacha.

Some parents have even taken upon themselves to restore order outside the school gate by devising a token system so that the early birds get their due. Poonacha’s was number 195 by the time he arrived at the gate.

“I have been standing in the queue from 12 noon and I my token number is 3. The school management will not do anything to control the crowd. So, we parents came up with the token system,” said Srinivas, a parent.
