The 'Prem' connection

Last Updated 17 May 2009, 16:40 IST

Remember Salman Khan's ‘Prem’ connection?  Sooraj Barjatya had lovingly called Salman's character as Prem in all his films from Maine Pyar Kiya to Hum Saath Saath Hain.
Salman considers the name Prem to be lucky for him because it was after the stupendous success of Maine Pyar Kiya that Salman became the big bankable star he is now.
Sallu now wants some of the Prem luck to rub off on his chhota bhai Arbaaz. A source on the sets of Prem Ka Game said, “Earlier Arbaaz's character was called by a different name but Salman suggested that Arbaaz’s character be called Prem. Not only this, Salman even advised Arbaaz to change the movie name from Shaadi Ke Effects to Prem Ka Game. Producer Ashok Kheny says, “I always felt that Arbaaz also had that romantic comedy potential which brother Salman excelled in. So we decided to offer him the title role of Prem Ka Game and since Salman plays the narrator giving warning signals throughout the narrative to the straying husband played by Arbaaz, perhaps it inspired him further to come out with a winning performance in this movie.” Perhaps Kheny is right. Who better to give tips on Prem than India's most eligible bachelor?

Tough fight ahead for ‘Khiladi’

With three big flops in the last one year, Akshay Kumar seems to be going through a lean phase. Way behind the two competing Khans, Aamir and SRK, who is the real king of Bollywood, one wonders? While Akshay Kumar has had three solo releases in the last one year, both Aamir Khan  and Shah Rukh Khan have had only one major release each. A quick look at the first week collections of these films in India shows that it's Aamir  who is standing away ahead of SRK and Akshay, making him the undisputed numero uno star of Bollywood.
Says trade analyst Amod Mehra , whatever Aamir has done in the last few years, has worked out well. Guess it is time SRK and Akki took a leaf out of Aamir's success book before it is too late.

Ask Sonu about it and he says, "It has become a huge rage down south and I could never believe that it would become so famous. It has become as popular as Gabbar Singh's dialogue - Kitne aadmi the. It is a great feeling and trust me when you get so much appreciation for your work your will to work becomes even stronger."
