National Craft Santhe begins today

Last Updated 31 January 2013, 20:10 IST

A new art exhibition called ‘National Craft Santhe 2013’ will kick off on Friday.
More than 150 artisans from all over India will participate and display an array of craft products ranging from Tanjore paintings, cane and bamboo products, and Jodhpur traditional wooden carvings to Poochampalli sarees.

Live demonstrations by master craftsmen in this 10-day event are an added attraction.

“In addition to being a great platform for artisans, the Craft Santhe enables a consumer to get the product directly from the artisans, providing no room for traders or middlemen. This time, we have received more than 100 applications mostly from places such as Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,” said Kithanne Gopinath, Secretary, Sri Nidhi Arts and Crafts Foundation.

This santhe is dedicated to the mother of handicrafts and late freedom-fighter Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay. Selected artisans will be honoured on April 3 at Ravindra Kalakshetra.
The ‘National Craft Santhe 2013’ organised by Sri Nidhi Arts and Crafts Foundation will take place at Chitrakala Parishat from 10 am to 8 pm.
