It’s that time of the year when final-year students busily hunt for job opportunities in whatever field they are pursuing.

With this in mind, Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology recently started its placement season. Many of the students have already decided their next step and others are on the verge of getting placed.

“A career is a new phase in everybody’s life. I feel lucky that I’ve got a job while still a student. I feel secure knowing that I will become a professional right after the college,” says Dhaneshwar, who has been recruited by Tommy Hilfiger as a fashion stylist.

“Campus recruitment was a great experience and it opened my eyes to the challenges of the real world. It gave me the opportunity to work in a place where I can grow in leaps and bounds,” he tells Metrolife.

In terms of campus recruitments, a long list of companies have already visited the college — including Raymonds, Shoppers Stop, Indian Myra, Tommy Hilfiger, Davanum Jewellers, Bombay Rayon and P N Rao to name a few. Arun, who heads the MBA department, is the man in charge of this year’s placements.

“We started approaching companies from the start of the academic year. The students send me their resumes and I forward them to companies based on the area of interest of each student. Attendance, academic performance and other factors are taken into account by the cell in the screening process,” he informs.

“We basically have different departments and I study each one’s requirement in terms of job opportunities. For instance, if a student wants to become a designer but a job opening’s for sales, it doesn’t make sense.

To avoid such mismatch, we conduct research and work with our students closely. This helps us get them jobs in places they’d really love to work,” adds the placements officer.

Understandably, the process of waiting to hear from companies is a nerve-wrecking one. But for those who have been sincere, the patience has paid off. Parinitha, who got recruited as a designer, shares her sentiments.

“I am the happiest person in the world and am very proud of myself, since many people applied for the job and I got selected. Today, I can tell my parents proudly that I have a job even before getting my final exams results,” she wraps up.
